Having been developed and released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station in 1996 this variety has been used by the malting industry for some time. A plump variety that has good test weight and matures early; it was developed to be well suited to western North Dakota where both the growing season and water are limited. As we adapt these varieties to Michigan we can consider these same factors as we evaluate soils and climate.

Developed in 1999 at NDSU, Pinnacle is a high yielding two row spring barley. With great resistance to disease, and excellent malting characteristics such as low protein and plump kernels; Pinnacle is a great variety for Michigan malts.

Released by the University of Wisconsin in 1992, this is a high yielding winter variety. Cover crops continue to be a great way to control for weeds, promote soil biology, resolve compaction, conserve nutrients, and build soil organic matter. Cereal rye continues to be a robust crop that can be planted later than most cover crops, and is an excellent soil builder, nutrient scavenger, and weed suppressor.

This is a new MCIA beardless, white chaffed, soft red winter wheat. It is a mid-early line with an excellent disease package and wide adaptability. It has both good straw and grain yield.
